About The Practice
Dr Sanford grew up in Middlesboro graduating Middlesboro High School in 1985. He is a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University and University of Kentucky's College of Medicine. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky professional clinic Kentucky Clinic department of Ophthalmology. He began private practice back in his hometown in 1997 where his main office is today. In 2003 Dr Booth joined the practice and added the new dimension of optometry and has continued to enhance the practice in a multitude of ways. Kimberly Owens, licensed optician, joined in 2004 and brought with her master skills of eyewear and design. The trio has grown to expand services to neighboring Harlan, Kentucky, and in 2012, Dr Sanford affiliated with The Eye Care Centers of Eastern Kentucky. With the optometry team of Dr Tom Sizemore, Dr. Jerald Combs, and Dr. Shane Barker, he does surgical consulting and performs eye surgery in Whitesburg, Kentucky.

Ptosis, or droopy eyelids, is a common occurrence associated with aging. A fast, outpatient procedure involving IV sedation only is used to remove the excess skin from the eyelids. The skin is closed with skin adhesive that requires no topical or oral antibiotics and comes off on its own in 7 to 10 days. Mild bruising can be expected but is usually gone rn a week. It takes about a month for the majority of healing to complete.
Wrinkles in the forehead, craw's feet, and vertical lines between the eyebrows can be eliminated with injection of botox. A standard treatment is 10 injections, each injection containing 3.75 Units of botulinum toxin A (a total of 37.5 Units). The most common unwanted side effect is slight bruising at the injection site but can be mitigated by elimination of blood thinning medications prior to the procedure. If it does occur, it fades usually within 2 to 3 days. We charge by injection and each injection is $28. For the most satisfactory results, 10 injections, or $280 will be sufficient for the vast majority of cosmetic patients. The effect is good for 3 months. An additive effect tends to occur however, and regular users find more and more time between treatments.
As a general rule, wrinkles below the nose respond better to filler agents than botox. The fold extending from the nose to mouth corners, the wrinkles around the mouth, and veritcal wrinkles around the lips are ideal sites for treatment. Juvederm is a synthetic collagen filler agent that comes in varying concentrations. Dr Sanford uses Juvederm Ultra 24, one of the the highest concentrations available to ensure long lasting, cosmetically-pleasing results while keeping costs affordable. The most common unwanted side effects include pain with the acutal injection and temporary (1-2 days) of uneven or "lumpy" appearance. This fades quickly into smooth contour. We charge by the syringe which is $499. This usually sufficient for a full treatment. The results are good for 9 months to a year.
